How to use your email signature to drive traffic to your website26 May 2022

Gone are the days where your email signature is just a list of contact information and a nice brand logo. If this is all your signature has to offer then read on, you could be missing out!

What is an email signature

Traditionally, at the bottom of an email you can add a strip that provides contact information should the receiver of the email need some other way to contact you or your company, other than your email.

As email signatures evolve, many companies are seeing the value they add to marketing.

What does a good email signature do?

A good signature will be informative and attractive. It will

  • Spread brand awareness
  • Advertise
  • Drive traffic to your website

It may be a small space at the bottom of your email but it’s mightier than you might think.

So why are they so important?

Each time you have a professional interaction with someone via email, your signature provides an impression of your business. It gives the reader an idea of what they can expect from you as a business.

It can provide visual representation and answer questions before they have even been asked, and can be a direct link between you, your client and your online storefront.

For the all important question… How do you write it?

Generally, you will have a sign off of some sort like ‘best wishes’ ‘kind regards’ or ‘cheers’ if you have a more informal vibe as a brand.

Then you will likely have your contact information. This is important as it is the main purpose for your signature. Make sure the writing will stand out against any graphics or other text in your signature.

You can then think about the branding of your signature. Make it stand out by using your brand colours and fonts, company colours and even add a picture of the sender to make the recipient feel they are getting to know more about a person, even if you only ever interact by email!

Add a call to action into your signature so that it will give an easy method for the recipient to link back to your website. It will give them an opportunity to sign up to a newsletter or blog, which could see you reaching more potential clients.

Other elements which have become more popular are adding your pronouns, videos and images, and automated banner campaigns. These things can really get your customers feeling like they know you and make the most of your email signature.

Just like with clicks and views, you can track what’s happening with your email signature too. This can help to define what your clients are responding to the most and help you plan for your marketing in the future.

Hopefully this helps you understand why email signatures are so important, and how you can take yours to the next level by including them in your marketing plan.
